It was a long awaited holiday that really was needed. But although it came and went too quickly (as most holidays do!) it was a wonderful trip all round. Our family had been to Club Med Lindeman Island before and just had to go again. So, after two years we did, and worth the wait it was when we ventured there again mid last year.

What makes a trip to Lindeman Island so great is the all-inclusive nature of the holiday, the splendid staff, fabulous food and amazing activities. If you have ever had to book a holiday you know you have to book more than one thing. There are the flights, the accommodation, the transfers, the list goes on. But when you book your trip to Club Med, all is done for you. They book your flights for you, your transfers from Hamilton Island and your accommodation on Lindeman Island. And if that isn't enough once you book, it won't cost you another cent if you don't want it to. Yes, Club Med is all inclusive – including all your meals, all your drinks and all your snacks.

Located in Queensland's Whitsunday Island group, Lindeman Island is one of 14 Islands that make up the Lindeman Islands National Park. The world heritage listed 790ha Island is one of the most diverse islands in the area.

We went with as a family of six (with four kids aged 7-17!), and each and every one of us had a great time. Put it this way, never was the usual "I'm bored" or "I'm hungry" heard, as has been the case in previous trips.

With enough things to do to last you a year, Lindeman Island won't disappoint. The resort has many facilities with a fully equipped circus school, that includes a 7 metre trapeze, an indoor basketball stadium, a soccer and rugby oval, an archery centre, four tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course with a driving range, a beach volleyball court, water polo pool and three swimming pools to name a few. I guarantee the kids will never get bored.

The island's staff – GO's as they are called – are some of the friendliest people you will meet and they are the ones that organise sporting games for the guests to play. There is always something happening! Go on the bungee bounce, play golf, tennis, basketball, soccer, beach volleyball, water polo, rugby, football, archery and more. But just make sure that at some point of your stay you try out the trapeze, which can be swung off by anyone, any age.

But if it's surf sun and sand you want, go swimming, kayaking, catermaranning and snorkelling, or just lay back and sunbake on one of the banana lounges on the beach and relax with a drink from the bar. The Island averages a yearly temperature of 23°C, so almost any day is a good day for water sports.

The food on the island is absolutely magnificent. With three meals a day, snacks and full bar service included in the package price, there is no need to reach into your back pocket for your entire stay. Full buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners are included. The kids will love unlimited soft drink, juice and ice-creams that are available at any time of the day from any of the bars. A tip – make sure you don't miss trying the resort's famous White Chocolate bread! Superb!

I have heard some complaints about the village before. Not so clean rooms and run-down facilities. In our families experience we had no problems with this on two visits. And, the only time you spend in the room is for much needed sleep. Days are generally quite action packed. Some facilities are in need of replacement or repair but most are perfectly fine.

And the other complaint I've heard is about the amount of stairs. From memory, we had 116 steps from the main area and restaurant to our room. But we thought that was good exercise after piling on the kilos at breakfast, lunch and dinner! After all, for those less mobile there is a bus service which by-passes the majority of the stairs.

Having been to a couple of Queensland islands in recent years now, Lindeman has certainly been the best by far. We have been twice in a little over two years and are sure to return again in the near future. We all can't wait!
