About Us

The greatest travel stories ever told… are the ones you tell your friends. But why stop there? Way2go allows you to bring your travel stories to the world.

Tell other travellers what you experienced - great places off the beaten track, ‘must-do’ experiences and things to give a wide berth.

Meet some of the members of our team. We asked each of them to nominate the single most remarkable sight they’ve seen while travelling.

The Way2go team

Paul Rodger – Way2go Web Editor
View profile and stories

Paul is Way2go’s web editor. He says he is as much inspired by the romantic notion of travelling as travelling itself. “Some of my favourite books have been by the big names in travel writing, and I have a soft spot for songs from the road,” he says.

No wonder, then, that Paul has done a bit of ‘story-searching’ of his own. A childhood spent in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Scotland and Australia has prepared him for a life in search of the next travel high.

He’s been a bit of a drifter with work as well, having tried his hand at book publishing, TV, and then magazine publishing, before coming onboard as editor of this website. He describes himself as a generalist. But that could mean he’s good at nothing.

Paul’s favourite sight was watching the sun come up over Angkor Wat in Cambodia. “Seeing the sun break through the tropical haze and illuminate this amazing building was like nothing else I have seen.”

Does he want to go back?

“No question!”

Kris Ashton – Travel Writer
View profile and stories

Kris is Deputy Editor at NRMA Publishing and a regular contributor to Way2go. You’ll often find him on the historical trail but when he’s not on the hunt for juicy cultural tidbits, you’ll find him having a splash at a beach somewhere.

A film critic from ’02 to ’07, Kris decided to swap the world of darkened cinemas for travel enlightenment. He says he contracted wanderlust in utero and never really lost the bug, so travel writing made sense.

Central Australia holds a special place in Kris’ heart. “Some people find its emptiness terrifying, but it gives me a sense of complete freedom,” says Kris. No surprise, then, that he rates watching the sun set over Mungo National Park in New South Wales as the most remarkable thing he’s seen. “As a city kid, I didn’t know such perfect silence was possible.”

David Naylor – NRMA Editor-in-Chief

View profile and stories

When he’s not editing Open Road magazine for NRMA, David likes to go and get lost somewhere.

An inveterate traveller, David took to the ‘hippy trail’ in the early 70s, travelling through countries like India, Nepal, Afghanistan and Iran. He followed that journey with a trans-Siberian adventure in 1978. Though interesting, David says it didn’t compare with the epic nature of the overland trip.

Since then, David and his wife Mary Bridgid have travelled all over Australia with their three daughters. All of them have caught the travel bug from Dad.

David is an avowed music lover, so it’s no surprise he resorts to the words of one of his favourite Australian musicians when asked about his special place. When Kev Carmody sang about “the enormous vastness of those inland plains”, David knew exactly where he was coming from. This experienced newspaper and magazine journo is rarely happier than when he’s driving through the Outback.
